soarin’ over california

Posted on: February 11, 2009

just wanted to share some of  the things i saw/did after attending the CHA winter show in anaheim, california.  aside from hitting joanns, michaels, big lots and target (i luuuuuuuuuvvvvv Target), we decided to spend our last days in LA at disney. (had to skip knotts berry considering I was already 6 months pregnant that time) marisa got us 3-day park hopper tickets and we were able to stroll through Disneyland and California Adventure at a leisurely pace.

the parks were wonderful at night. loved how the pictures we took turned out. didnt even have to edit them in photoshop! 🙂 however, i was a bit bothered that the mouse was missing an ear on the rollercoaster. hmmmm…

of course we had to take the “obligatory” picture with The Mouse. 🙂 we actually caught him thrice in different garb. marisa kept exclaiming how lucky we were when it came to getting pictures with the characters. the lines weren’t that long and we chanced upon most of them throughout the park.

and being an NBA fan (courtesy of hubby), I had to catch at least one home game at the Staples Center. thanks to Neng’s friend, marisa and i got great seats to the jan.27 game against the bobcats.  although the lakers lost (boohoo), it was still a great game to watch…double overtime and with kobe fouling out, it was still pretty neat. 🙂 gobbled down two farmer joe’s hotdog sandwiches before halftime to the amazement of marisa. hehehe… e sa masarap sila e. hehehe… and besides, i’m eating for two!!! (excuses, excuses, excuses…)

speaking of eating… what’s a trip to the states without getting your fill of the best pancakes from IHOP? and the best key lime pie from Bubba Gump? and the best (better than McDonalds or Burger King in my opinion) burgers from In-n-Out? and the mouthwatering baby back ribs from Sizzler? and crunchy french toast from the Marriott? hehehe… no wonder my belly became twice as large during my stay there.  man. food trip to the highest level talaga…be it vietnamese, mexican, american and pati pinoy food (just had to eat kare-kare at kapitbahay restaurant for merienda) teeheehee…

after getting my fill of scrap-goodies from LA, i hugged marisa goodbye and headed north to san francisco for a bit of R&R+more shopping+sightseeing with my godmother’s family and my sister-in-law.

the weather was better than i expected and i the bay area greeting me with clear skies and just the right wind temp to tingle my cheeks.

decided to stroll through pier 39 while nibbling away at an ice cream cone…blew a couple of kisses for the sea lions…and watched a juggler make a fool of himself to the delight of the kiddies…

and a trip to san francisco wouldn’t be complete without a picture of the golden gate bridge. dibadibs? 🙂

the rest of my stay at norcal was spent with my sister-in-law and her family in san jose. i have to say that i loved what i saw there…the old quaint homes lining the streets along with tall skyscrapers… a mix of the old and new — but it works. 🙂

a few miles out, we found monterey bay and couldn’t help but fall in love with the small town facing the pacific. people descirbe it as the perfect romantic weekend getaway or exciting adventure — there’s the Old Fisherman’s Wharf + the Monterey Bay Aquarium + the Point Sur Lighthouse + regular whale watching + the Monarch butterflies in Pacific Grove + several b&bs scattered around the area.

the picture above was taken at pacific grove and it was soooooo cold and foggy.  but a few minutes away near the cannery row and the wharf, it was all bright and sunny (see below)

the best place for lunch would be at el torito because you get a full view of the ocean and the bay while munching on some great mexican food. my sister-in-law said that if you’re lucky, you could even see otters and sea lions playing on the rocks near the restaurant.

i bet there are still a ton of wonderful places i have yet to explore up in norcal. didnt get to drive/fly to las vegas to see some cousins. 😦 maybe next time. and i’m hoping that i could make the trip with hubby. hmmm… 2010 CHA winter convention anyone? 🙂
